LogisticsBC enjoyed the "Container Trail" tour hosted by the Port of Vancouver. After boarding the bus and departing the Port of Vancouver's Delta Community Office, our wonderful hosts Tanya Hawke and Marc Testa escorted us to Tilbury Industrial Park where we viewed container depots, logistics warehouses, Seaspan's barge dock and the Fortis CNG facility.
We then headed toward Deltaport to see the truck staging facility, the container examination facility and the Deltaport Logistics Center on the Tsawwassen First Nation. Our last stops were at the Roberts Bank coal export facility and the Global Container terminal where we were very fortunate to see a ship being loaded.
. Along the way, Tanya and Marc provided details of the port's operations and answered the many questions fielded by our group. All in all, it was a fantastic tour, the weather was beautiful, we learned a lot and a great time was had by all!
We had the pleasure of hosting a SOLD OUT tour at Lordco Auto Parts Distribution Center in Port Coquitlam! It was great to meet some of the team and take a walk through their new warehouse. They are utilizing a variety of machines and conveyor systems to support over 90 stores.
A special thank you to Timothy Moffat, Scott Henry, Aman B., Dwayne Lenders, Dan Bassetto, and Cilena Heatherington.
A BIG thanks to CDS for allowing us to tour their newest Distribution Centre. 375,000 sq. ft. used very efficiently but full and clean. Very clean!! For more information you can look them up at www.cdsltd.ca or info@cdsltd.ca.
The event started at Milestones in Tsawwassen where Roy Ellis and Dan Beer welcomed the group then Steve Stark, President of Tsawwassen Shuttles and a member of the Tsawwassen First Nation, provided a brief history of the TFN treaty and many of the developments that have evolved since. Then Jennifer Perih, Manager of Corporate Affairs, Global Container Terminals, provided some details about the port facility and their proposal to add another berth (Berth 4).
When we entered the GCT facility, the group was joined by Daniel Howell, VP Operations and Colin Parker, Director of Operations of GCT Deltaport. With the assistance of Jen and Colin, Daniel explained details of the operation and fielded many questions as we toured Canada’s Largest Container facility while it was in operation.
The group then boarded the bus and drove through the TFN industrial lands, while Steve pointed out landmarks of interest and provided more information on the TFN economic development.
Although there was not a ship being unloaded at the time, there was still plenty of activity and lots of interesting things to see.
Upon exiting the facility, we stopped for a group photo before returning to Milestones where a few attendees gathered to discuss the tour and network.
In summary, we had a diverse group of 49 attendees, which included 10 students from BCIT and everyone enjoyed learning more about the TFN, GCT and the unique relationship that they share. All in all, it was a fantastic tour and the weather was perfect!
